Jean Ferrard (born January 27, 1944 in Watermael-Boitsfort) is a Belgian organist and musicologist. After studying organ at the Brussels Conservatory, Jean Ferrard continued his studies with Marie-Claire Alain in Paris. He then studied musicology at the University of Brussels. After completing his studies, he produced a daily classical music program for the station RTBF 3 (now Musiq3) for more than ten years. Since 1985 he has devoted his time mainly to teaching. From 1982 to 1992 he was professor of organ at the Liège Conservatory and from 1992 until his retirement in 2009 he worked in the same position at the Brussels Conservatory. In addition to regular master classes, he holds several visiting professorships in various European countries. Since his retirement, Ferrard has been preparing a doctorate on the subject of “La musique d’orgue des Pays-bas méridionaux au premier tiers du XVIIe siècle, mise en rapport avec les écoles national naissant» Since 1996 he has been the editor of the tri-monthly specialist magazine Le Magazine de l'orgue. In addition to his work as an editor for the French publisher Heugel, with works of “Early Music”, he has worked on several films, including a 90-minute film about the life of Johann Sebastian Bach for GDR television. In addition to his international concert activities, he made more than 20 CD recordings, including on the organ of the Bonifaciuskerk (Medemblik).
