About James Yorkston and The Second Hand Orchestra
James Yorkston and The Second Hand Orchestra is the collaboration between Scottish singer-songwriter James Yorkston and Swedish instrumental band The Second Hand Orchestra who have recorded two albums together, on the second of which they were also joined by the singer Nina Persson, now under the name of James Yorkston, Nina Persson and The Secondhand Orchestra. For the first album Yorkston joined up with the Second Hand Orchestra to record the album The Wide, Wide River in 2020. It was released on 22 January 2021. Yorkston describes the recording as follows: "I flew to Sweden and made this record within hours of meeting The Second Hand Orchestra. I played them the songs, we hit record, and from then, every note of every arrangement was spontaneous. The result: this fast-footed, free-wheeling album x". In late 2022, a follow-up album was announced, The Great White Sea Eagle, with addition of Nina Persson, best known as singer of swedish rock band The Cardigans. It is set for release in January 2023.
