About Irene Franklin

(1885 - 1941) Irene Franklin was a comedienne who had become a favourite in vaudeville by 1895. She starred in various shows on Broadway between 1907 and 1929, and then, until 1939, she was in Hollywood where she played various character parts. Between 1911 and 1917 Miss Franklin also made a number of recordings. Her signature tune (inspired by her real-life hair color) was “Red Head”. Other character songs in her repertoire included “The German Prima Donna”, “I’ve Got the Mumps”, and “I Want to Be a Janitor’s Child.”
