About Holy Lamb

Holy Lamb is a Latvian band of musicians that was formed in Rīga, Latvia in 1991 by brothers Aigars (guitar, vocals) and Ēriks Červinskis (drums), Uģis Zemītis (bass), and Ēriks Jugāns (guitar). Their early offerings were largely confined to thrash metal, but that changed along with the line-up. Their self-produced debut album, Bite in the Dust, was recorded in 1994 and released two years later. Much to the surprise of many, the offering was a mixture of classic and progressive rock with only a dash of metal. The band put itself on the international map in 1999 with Salt of the Earth, their second album. It was released by the Italian label Mellow Records and got a few positive reviews. Holy Lamb went on to strengthen their position in the prog genre by putting out Beneath the Skin: A Transgressive Rock Tale on Hungary's Periferic Records in 2002. More gigs and national and international festival appearances followed before the band went on a lengthy hiatus due to its member's personal matters. After resuming activity, more line-up changes occurred and the band spent a few years in a bit of a struggle basically having to adapt to working with several drummers in a row. The line-up issues were eventually settled with the arrival of guitarist Ansis Markauss and drummer Toms Circenis in 2010. While all the members had their day jobs, they were committed to recording a follow-up to Beneath the Skin. The sessions for Gyrosophy commenced in late 2013 and the finished product was ready to be released digitally via all streaming platforms just before Christmas 2015. The CD version was released in May 2016 by the French label Musea Parallèle. Subsequently to the release of the physical CD, the band experienced another shift behind the drum kit as Toms Circenis was replaced by Gustavs Pauna, with whom they started to jam and write new material that was recorded without haste over the period of two lockdown years. The band's fifth album was expected to be come out in late 2023, and the mixdown was already well underway when guitarist Ansis Markauss who was in charge of the process was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour and eventually succumbed to the illness in February 2024, leaving behind his spouse and two very young children. During the difficult winter months, the band carried on as a three-piece and kept writing new music. When all the files for the album in the making had been retrieved from Ansis Markauss' DAW, the band settled on finding someone, preferably close to the band, to complete the mixdown. The band went with their old friend Tālis Timrots again who was happy to do the job even if unable to start the work right away due to other commitments. In early November 2024 the album, titled Minefield Promenade, was made available on the net. A CD or LP release is being considered. Holy Lamb is currently putting together new material for the follow-up to Minefiled Promenade and looking forward to resuming live shows in the latter half of 2025. Current members: Aigars Červinskis - bass, vocals; Aleksandrs Voļperts - guitars; Gustavs Pauna - drums. http://www.holylamb.lv
