About Hangmás

Since its formation in 2002, Budapest's Hangmás Zenekar has emerged as one of the more colorful elements of the Hungarian underground scene. With its distinctive atmosphere and unique sound, one might find it rather difficult to place the band in any specific genre. Nevertheless, we can still discover influences of new wave, electro-punk, and garage rock. The band has become famous for their frantic concerts; audiences are blown away by their genuinely explosive performances. Their music is characterized by sweeping drum and bass-guitar rhythms, scratchy guitars, and a massive wall of synthesized sound, all of which is topped off with a load of unusual sound effects. Add to this the singer..s suggestive stage presence and slogan-like lyrics... In the summer of 2006 Paul, a mysterious Austrian guitarist and former member of the Berlin cult band Fatou Dust, joined Hangmás as a supporting musician. The band released their debut album Funeral Party Budapest in October 2007, which was warmly welcomed by the critics and the growing audience as well. They have launched their first video clip for the song "We are modern" on the Hungarian Music Television and reached the 5th place on the MTV Top50 selection! This autumn they have started recording their second LP. In October they are shooting their new video in Prague with a Bohemian director Simon Safranek who directed and produced their first video as well.
