About Gunther Rost

Gunther Rost (born October 3, 1974 in Würzburg) is a German conductor, concert organist and professor of organ at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, where he heads the Institute for Church Music and Organ and founded the Center for Organ Research. From 2012 to 2014 he was organist in residence with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. Rost was a student of Günther Kaunzinger and Marie-Claire Alain (Paris). He has won prizes at numerous international music competitions, such as the Leipzig Bach Competition, the ION (International Organ Week Nuremberg) and the Dallas International Organ Competition. In addition to the organ and piano works of Johann Sebastian Bach, the music of the Czech composer Petr Eben is a focus of his artistic activity through the complete recording of Eben's organ works. In the field of organ building, he made a name for himself by designing and developing several mobile concert organs for the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz height-adjustable organ consoles. Gunther Rost conducts the 4D Orchestra Styria and is artistic director of the Styria Organ Spring Festival, which takes place annually in spring.
