About Green Bullfrog

There are 2 artists named Green Bullfrog. 1.Green Bullfrog was a one-off project by a bunch of musicians who had known each other long before many of them became famous. The band included Big Jim Sullivan, Chas Hodges, Albert Lee, Tony Ashton, Ian Paice, Rod Alexander, Matt Fischer and Ritchie Blackmore are just some of the luminaries who showed up for the super session, which was recorded in the first half of 1970 and issued on LP in America in 1971, a year earlier than it was in Europe. Green Bullfrog were a group that only existed on paper, and scarcely officially in that medium, either, because of all the hairs that had to be split (and names unnamed) in existing contracts to get their record made. With the identities of the bandmembers effectively hidden behind pseudonyms, it's not entirely surprising that the album never rose beyond cult status on either side of the Atlantic. The whole project was the brainchild of producer Derek Lawrence, who roped these former members of his stable into doing him the favor. The tracks recorded during the sessions include the epic instrumental Bullfrog, along with several more bluesy numbers, such as Who Do You Love and Walk A Mile In My Shoes. This strong blues influence may explain why Ritchie Blackmore for one does not appear to like the result of these recordings. 2.Green Bullfrog is an Estonian blues band which later changed their name to Bullfrog Brown.
