About Giulio Regondi

Giulio Regondi (1822-1872) was an Italian concertinst, classical guitarist and composer. He spent his early years touring throughout Europe as a child prodigy. Fernando Sor dedicated his Souvenir d'amitié, op. 46 to Regondi in 1831, when the boy was just nine. Regondi wrote most of his music for the concertina, an English/German aerophonic instrument, though his compositions for the classical guitar are more popular. His musical and technical ideas extended somewhat the possibilities of the guitar, compared to the standards prevailing in his time. His use of very wide chord voicing, typical of the piano, and the overextension of the left hand fingers became an integral part of the guitar technique.
