About Gentle Soul

Gentle Soul (sometimes The Gentle Soul) was an American folk band formed in 1966 by singer-songwriters Pamela Polland and Rick Stanley. The band's eponymous 1968 album (featuring Ry Cooder, Van Dyke Parks, and Larry Knechtel, amongst others) appeared on Epic Records, together with a number of non-LP singles. Columbia Records released one record by the band, produced by Terry Melcher. By this time, the group comprised Pamela Polland, Rick Stanley, Riley Wildflower, and Sandy Konikoff. For a short time, the group included Jackson Browne. The band split later in 1968. The band's recordings have become coveted classics regarded as some of the most perfectly realized gems from the groundbreaking Los Angeles folk-rock scene that also embraced the Byrds, Tim Buckley and Buffalo Springfield, with the original vinyl album now a pricey collector’s item. In 2002, Sundazed Records re-mastered and released the entire Gentle Soul collection (the album, the singles and some previously-unreleased demos).
