Gentle Influence

About Gentle Influence

Gentle Influence was a Psychedelic Pop/Rock group active in the 1960's. The band was created out of the demise of one of the South's most succesful Soul bands, The Steam Machine, who, although never signed, were highly thought of amongst the Soul/R+B/Motown fraternity. By 1968 the new band - The George Street Ideal - were taken up by local businessman, Rodney Harnett, who invested in a demo, new clothes and hairstyles, and secured a recording contrat with Pye, under the direction of John Schroeder, who insisted upon a change of name to .Gentle Influence' This caused much hilarity amongst the band, who, as Pye was a predominently Jewish organisation, referred to themselves privately as 'Gentile Influence'!
