About General Strike

There is more than one act using the name "General Strike". 1. General Strike was a project of frequent collaborators David Toop and Steve Beresford, who also played together in Alterations and The Flying Lizards. As General Strike they composed music informed by dub, film music, free jazz (including a handful of Sun Ra covers) and Ryuichi Sakamoto-esque neo-classicism. They released a single cassette album, Danger in Paradise, on the Touch Records label in 1984. An ever-so-slightly different version was reissued on CD by Piano Records in 1996. 2. The punk/activist band General Strike came from Augusta, Maine in the late 90s. Its members would start the Black Spring Project label/distro. Other than an early cassette demo the 7" on Crack Rock Records in 1998 would be their only release. Lately there have been talks of reunion shows. Original members were Vic, Jonny, Pat, & Joe. 3. Ivanić Oi!
