Founded in 1986 in London, UK, the group mainly performs music of the sixteenth through eigtheenth centuries, from Elizabethan English music through the Baroque period. Fretwork have also commissioned modern works for viols and have been in demand for film soundtracks. Among their frequent guest artists are counter tenor Michael Chance, tenor Charles Daniels, soprano Emma Kirkby, lutenists Jacob Heringman and Christopher Wilson, and keyboardists Paul Nicholson and Timothy Roberts.
