About François Delor

François Delor is a Swiss organist and composer. Born into a family of musicians, François Delor did most of his musical studies at the Conservatory of Geneva, while at the same time attending the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. His organ masters were Pierre Segond in Geneva and Marice-Claire Alain in Paris. Titular organist of the Temple de la Fusterie from 1966 to 2016, and of St-Pierre Cathedral in Geneva from 1994 to 2017, he devotes a large part of his activity to his concert career. He taught organ and harmony for many years at the Conservatoire supérieur de musique de Genève, of which he is an honorary professor. He is often asked as an expert for organ construction. He also devoted himself to composition: six Preludes for piano, Six Lieder on poems by Rilke, as well as, for the organ, a Sonata, a book of 12 Christmases, a Toccata, a collection of 30 Interludes. He also wrote several pastiche works for piano and organ, including Mendelssohn's 7th Sonata, Franck's 4th Choir, a Fantasy by Liszt, Organ Pieces in the style of the old French Masters, etc. He made transcriptions for organ (Purcell, Couperin, Schubert, Wagner, Tchaikovsky). He is also the author of a Traité d'harmonie. In his discography there are several CDs devoted to French baroque music, repertoire that François Delor is particularly fond of: Dandrieu, Dumage, Marchand, on the Quoirin organ of the temple of Fusterie; Franck, on the organ of Victoria Hall. Two recent CDs have been recorded on the Metzler organs of Geneva Cathedral: Les Grandes Orgues de la cathédrale Saint-Pierre (Sweelinck, Bach, Alain, Liszt) and A la manière de... (F. Delor, pastiche works by Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Alain, Franck).
