About Flying Norwegians
Flying Norwegians was a Norwegian country rock band formed in Bergen in January 1974 by Rune Walle and Jarle Zimmermann (later known for the solo project Zimmerman in the 80s). Soon after they were joined by Cato Sanden (died 2005, but prior to that co-operated with American folk artist Laurie Lewis), Gunnar Bergstrøm (from roots band Hole In The Wall), and Johannes Torkelsen. Considered to be the first "real" country rock band from Norway, Walle left in 1976, soon after their landmark album "Wounded Bird", to join The Ozark Mountain Daredevils. The band split in 1981 after four albums, but reunited in 1995 for a fifth album. The band was in the middle of another reunion tour in 2005 when Sanden died, aged 51, and the band disbanded for good.
