About Flattstreet
A six-piece independent funk-rock band from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, they met in the Hamilton All-Star Jazz band program. Martin Eckart - tenor sax Simon Gill - drums Justin Dunlop - bass Thom Gill (no relation) - guitar and sometimes vocals Sarah Ruba contributed vocals between 2002-2004. They since added Jessy Lanza, who plays keyboard and sings. Two full albums, Moon Cookies (pre-Sarah) and This Dog Is Big (with Sarah), are available for free download from their website, www.flattstreet.ca. The two albums are distinctly different in flavour and tone, owing to the band's commitment to experimentation. Their live show is very improvised and very danceable.
