About Funda Arar
Funda Arar (born 8 April 1975 in Ankara, Turkey) is a Turkish singer known for her versatility in pop, Anatolian rock, and classical Turkish music. Arar spent her childhood in Ankara and later lived in Muğla and Adapazarı due to her father’s job. She began studying mandolin and solfège from a young age. In 1992, she passed the entrance exam to the Turkish Music Conservatory at Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and graduated from there. After graduation, she worked as a music teacher for two years while also performing. Her debut album, Sevgilerde, was released in 1999 and included the hit song Aysel. Her second album, Sevgiliye, was released in 2000, and this was a collaboration with the musician Kıraç. Her third album, Alagül, came out in 2002. Her fourth album, Sevda Yanığı, was released in 2003, featuring poetic songs (e.g. “Haberin Var Mı?”). Following a brief break, she released Son Dans in 2006, which earned a Platinum certification. In 2008, she released Rüya, an album in which she performed Turkish classical music using a variety of makams (traditional modes), accompanied by a master ensemble under Yaşar Okyay. Her subsequent albums include Zamanın Eli (2009), Aşkın Masum Çocukları (2011), Sessiz Sinema (2012), Hoşgeldin (2015), Aşk Hikayesi (2017), and Arabesk (2018). She has also released EPs: Sevgiliye (2001, with Kıraç), Beyaz Gelincik (2007, with Kıraç), Doldur Yüreğimi (2020), and Boşver (2022). Funda Arar married Febyo Taşel in 2004; he is also the producer of many of her albums. In 2013, they had a son named Aras. Arar is respected for her strong vocal ability, her blending of modern pop with traditional Turkish musical forms, and her commitment to producing music that has emotional depth and timelessness.
