About Expresso Transatlântico
2021 saw the birth of one of the most interesting projects on the current musical scene: Expresso Transatlântico. The Lisbon band that brought together Celeste Rodrigues' brothers and great-grandchildren, Gaspar and Sebastião Varela, on Portuguese and electric guitars respectively, and Rafael Matos on drums, released their eponymous debut EP at the end of 2021 and has since received the most distinct praise from national and international audiences. It was with the distance of an ocean, between Lisbon and the USA, that the first ideas for the birth of the group were formed, while Gaspar Varela was on tour with the Queen of Pop, Madonna. With a sound that is deeply influenced by the rhythms of popular Portuguese, Brazilian, and African music, the work of these three young musicians reveals us, through six songs, the soundtrack of a Lisbon overlooking the world. In 2023 we will witness the birth of their debut album.
