About Eric Lin

Eric Lin (1971, Taiwan) aka Lin-Chiwei, is a Taiwanese writer, sound artist and festival curator. As a key figure in the underground scenes in Taipei during the early 1990s, Lin was the co-founding member of Zero and Sound Liberation Organization (Z.S.L.O.), the first noise group in Taiwan. He co-organised Taipei Broken Life Festival (1994/1995) which marks the highpoint of the local noise movement and the underground culture. Since the late-1990s, Lin has been exploring in the realms of folklore culture, and through his work, integrating sound, ritual and the participation of the audience. The Tape Music is his most well-known piece which has been performed over fifty times in different cites. It is a collective sound performance in which the audience are positioned in a live concert situation with a special arrangement that resembles to the synthesizer circuit via distributing a 'tape' with syllables on it, thus creating a mechanism which enables a kind of hyper-humanised electronic sound.
