About Dio - Distraught Overlord

Dio – distraught overlord was a Japanese visual kei metal band that formed in Tokyo in May 2006. Known for their darker, heavier sound compared to typical visual kei bands, Dio fused metal with melodic elements, creating a distinct style that stood out within the genre. The band consisted of vocalist Mikaru, guitarists Erina and Kei, bassist Ivy, and drummer Denka. The band officially made their debut on May 14, 2006, with a performance at Shinjuku HOLIDAY, where they distributed their first single, "Garasu no Umi" (硝子の海). Initially, the band worked with support drummer Masaya, but Denka officially joined as the drummer in August 2006. By the end of the year, the band was active on the live scene and released a trilogy of singles: "Byakuya ni Moyuru Hana," "Byakuya ni Moyuru Hana Shi to Byoudou no Tsumi no Naka de," and "Byakuya ni Moyuru Hana Nanji, Ware wa Zennou no Mono Nari." Their first oneman performance, "Embrace at Distraught" was held on May 14, 2007, and their single Dantoudai wa Ta ga Tame ni Yureru (断頭台は誰が為に揺れる) was distributed. The live recording of "Embrace at Distraught" was later released on DVDon August 8, 2007. They started off 2008 with a oneman at Shibuya ON AIR WEST and the mini-album Heaven's Call in February. They had their first overseas concert, playing at Rennes Jardin Moderne in France in February. The single CARRY DAWN came in August, before a fully realized European tour that began in November. Dio performed in Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Poland, UK, France and Spain. They were planning a stop in Sweden, but that concert was cancelled due to a lack of ticket sales. In December 2008, Dio released their first full-length album DICTATOR, which featured re-recorded versions of older tracks to match the band's evolving sound. Dio had their first one-man tour, spanning between January 23-29. A live recording of the tour, titled TOUR DICTATOR, was released on DVD on April 22, 2009. In May, they began a second one-man tour and released the single "COMA GOLD" is distributed throughout. The tour was between May 5 to May 14. However, in September 2009, guitarist Erina left the band after their July 29 concert at Takadanobaba Area. Despite Erina's departure, Dio continued to perform until January 2010, when they announced they would cease activities. On March 13, they held their last oneman titled FINAL CALL at Takadanobaba AREA. After the disbandment, several members moved on to other projects. Mikaru is now in G.L.A.M.S, guitarist Kei retired from music, Ivy has a solo project called MAKURAKA Eshi (マクラカ壊死) and Denka (now called Syu) is in the semi-active band Enishi (縁).
