About Didier Awadi

Born in 1969 Dakar, Didier Awadi grew up in the district Friendship. A pioneer of the hip-hop movement in Senegal and West Africa, Awadi founded the group Positive Black Soul (PBS) with Doug-E-Tee (Amadou Barry) in 1989. Their first album, Boul Faalé (1994) was a success. Awadi released his first solo album Kaddu Gor (word of honor) in In 2002. The album won the Radio France Internationale World Music award in 2003. In October 2005, Awadi released his second solo album Another World is Possible in the French market. The album is a plea for more humane international policies and greater consideration of Third World. Awadi has continued his pursuit for African integration with the 2007 release, Presidents of Africa. The compilation is a "combining African rappers and the voices of presidents after independence." It is part of the latest incarnation of Positive Black Soul, PBS Radikal, with Carlou D., Baay Sooley, El Hadj Cissoko, DJ Saf Niang and Thais. Didier Awadi has been decorated in both Senegal and France.
