Debbie Dabney

About Debbie Dabney

In or around 1956, Bobby Darin and Don Kirshner got together to write I Want to Spend Christmas With Elvis. Seems apparent, Elvis Presley was already a knock-out, hearthrob, to a massive population of females, across the USA. It's said Bobby Darin was dating a lady by the name of Debbie Dabney. She's the lucky lady who, if true, got to cement dating Bobby Darin in history, by doing, I Want to Spend Christmas With Elvis. However, she may have wished to preserve a certain amount of privacy too. For, as the 45 record reveals, she's billed as Marlene Paula! As irony would have it, depending on what Oldies album or Oldies CD you find this song on, the singer may be labeled as Marlene Paula or Debbie Dabney. So much for privacy, unless neither name is the true name of this singer! What we do know is, this is a well-written, well-done, rousing Christmas song. Serious creative work was put into the writing of these lyrics. The vocal performance is of professional quality, as though this song is made to last. Even better, featured jazz guitarist Kenny Burrell. Is it a Novelty song? Yes, but one with staying power. It's ashame, because the song is about Elvis Presley, it's been doomed to go almost unheard, all these years. Worse is, so much history connected to this song, is missing, in the Wikipedia and internet age.
