About David Rice

Singer/songwriter/producer/composer David Rice has covered a lot of ground in his fifteen year career. Just out of high school he honed his performance chops at Houston clubs, packing houses with his acoustic-driven solo and band shows. After releasing two albums on Justice Records he moved to Los Angeles and signed with Columbia Records in the mid 90s. Recorded at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios, his self-produced 1998 release Greenelectric garnered international praise for its adventurous musicality and lyricism. After parting with Sony David began writing and producing for pop acts like Mandy Moore and and developing new talent like Paige, who he produced and signed to Warner/ Word Records in 2000. In 2001 David got his first taste of television when he wrote and performed an original holiday song with Mandy Moore for TNT's Christmas in Washington. He went on to co-write the main title theme to ABC's Hope and Faith and license dozens of compositions to TV and film. The next year his haunting guitar work became the signature of a Wachovia Bank ad campaign that ran from 2002-2006. David has since composed music for and/or performed in dozens of national commercials, his organic instrumentation and voice appearing in spots for AT&T, Coca-Cola, Folgers, Hyundai, and Ford. Leaving California in 2005 and settling in Austin with his wife and son, David has joined an exciting community of media makers with whom he is busy... making media! He is an advisor to Students of the World, an Austin-based non-profit working to raise public awareness of and activism on social issues affecting international communities. With the gracious cooperation from Real World Records, David scores the group's annual Clinton Global Initiative film series by using a mix of original work and remixes of Real World tracks. He is associate producer and composer for Crawford, USA, the forthcoming feature documentary from Michener Fellow David Modigliani that explores Bush’s impact on the small Texas town. And as executive producer with NYC-based Face The Music he’s been producing music in GSD&M national spots for BMW and AT&T. Finally, he is pleased to step out from behind the scenes with the release of Eighty Miles To Stand Up, arguably his clearest and most accessible solo album to date. Look for David around Austin, Houston, and Dallas as he returns to the stage in support of the new record.
