About David Hidalgo, Mato Nanji & Luther Dickinson

David Hidalgo of Los Lobos, Mato Nanji of the Native American blues-rock group Indigenous, and Luther Dickinson, member of North Mississippi Allstars and the Black Crowes - teaming together to record a twelve-song collection of raw, raucous roots 'n' blues tunes that feature plenty of guitars. Throw in the assistance of bassist Steven Evans (Eric Gales) and Indigenous drummer Jeff Martin and you have a group worthy of respect by any measure. The three artists met as featured players on this year's Experience Hendrix tour and, feeling a shared musical kinship, decided to get together and record 3 Skulls and the Truth for Mike Varney's noted Blues Bureau International record label. The material is greasy, guitar-driven blues-rock featuring three talented lead guitarists jamming on original material inspired by folks like ZZ Top and Jimi Hendrix. Several of the songs were penned by Dickinson, no stranger to solid, bluesy songwriting, some of those co-written with guitarist Lightnin' Malcolm. Label chief Varney contributes a couple of tunes, and Mato Nanji throws in a handful of songs to round out the mix.
