Celly Ru (born Marcel, November 20, 1990) is an American rapper from Sacramento, California. He is best known for his "gritty intensity" and vivid storytelling about street life, hardship, and resilience. He is a prominent member of the Hellgang collective and a longtime affiliate of fellow Sacramento artist Mozzy. Marcel was born in Sacramento and began rapping at approximately five years old, influenced by his uncle and cousin. His stage name, "Celly Ru," is a combination of his birth name and a reference to the Piru street gang. The name was reportedly given to him by his late friend Marcus, who Celly later memorialized in the 2018 single "Dear Marcus".
