About Burnt Noodle

BURNT NOODLE is an interesting psychedelic project from Paul Lamb, bassist and leader of The FIELD. This California quintet manages to keep a good balance between progressive rock, acoustic finesse and the psychedelic atmosphere. The closest comparison would probably be PHISH, but you'll also find traces of DJAM KARET in their material as well as some DOORS, OZRIC TENTACLES, PINK FLOYD, even a bit of ZAPPA. Their only album, "The Noodle and the Damage Done" (1998), does feature some laid-back tunes with CROSBY, STILLS, NASH & YOUNG-like harmonies, but most of it is made up of pure psychedelic improvisations with lots of solid guitar solos, with particular care given to the textures. Alternating between soft passages and extremely loud moments, you'll hear a gamut of influences ranging from 60's psychedelia to ultra-modern extravaganza. The musicianship is excellent on all counts.
