About Thijs Boontjes
Thijs Boontjes (born Schagen, The Netherlands, 14 November 1987) is a Dutch singer, keyboard player and songwriter based in Amsterdam, who first gained prominence in the Dutch music scene as the frontman of the Thijs Boontjes Dans- En Showorkest. The band released a number of singles and EPs, their style being labelled as 'Herman Brood meets André Hazes': rock & roll meets the Dutch levenslied, with lyrics in the Dutch language. A full-length début album, entitled Geen Achttien Meer, was released in early 2019. Unlike earlier releases this album was credited simply to Thijs Boontjes, although the Dans- en Showorkest continues to be his backing band on stage. All of his older work is now also listed under Thijs Boontjes on streaming platforms; the Dans & Showorkest moniker has been dropped for Boontjes' recorded output. Released in November 2024, Boontjes' second full-length album, Dancing Boontjes, marked his move to the Excelsior Recordings record label.
