About Blue System
Blue System was a project by Dieter Bohlen, which he founded in 1987 after the first breakup of Modern Talking. He ended the project in 1998. Compared to Modern Talking, the project was less successful and primarily known in German-speaking countries and Russia. Blue System was synonymous with Dieter Bohlen, featuring various musicians and dancers for performances. The music, like Modern Talking's earlier work, was characterized by the predominant use of synthesizers with drum machines in minor keys. The most successful single was "Under My Skin," which reached number 6 on the German charts. There were also experimental songs like "Save Me" (1989), "Behind the Silence" (1990), which was entirely instrumental, as well as duets like "Love Is Such A Lonely Sword" with Audrey Motaung (1990) and "It’s All Over" with Dionne Warwick (1991). While the success of the singles gradually declined, the album "Backstreet Dreams" climbed to number 5 on the LP charts in 1993. When album sales also began to decline in the mid-1990s, there was a musical turning point after the album "21st Century." The subsequent albums like "X-Ten" (1994) were heavily influenced by the then-popular Eurodance sound, featuring stronger basses and beats. The choruses were now mainly sung by female voices. However, the new musical direction did not succeed in recapturing Blue System's early successes. The most well-known single from this period is "Laila" (1995), which reached number 29 on the single charts. Other singles performed significantly worse. With the single "Love Will Drive Me Crazy" and the comeback of Modern Talking in 1998, the Blue System project ended. Detlef Wiedeke, Michael Scholz, and Rolf Köhler, former studio singers for Blue System and Modern Talking, resumed making music in 2003 – Köhler died in September 2007 – and under the name Systems in Blue, they copied the sound and even the logo of Blue System. However, they were unable to achieve chart success. Studio albums Walking on a Rainbow (1987) Body Heat (1988) Twilight (1989) Obsession (1990) Seeds of Heaven (1991) Déjà vu (1991) Hello America (1992) Backstreet Dreams (1993) 21st Century (1994) X-Ten (1994) Forever Blue (1995) Body to Body (1996) Here I Am (1997)
