About Black Truth Rhythm Band

Black Truth Rhythm Band was an Afro Beat musical group from Trinidad and Tobago, Lead By basis, guitarist and lead vocalist Oluko Imo. Oluko initiated the creation of most of the music which was developed by the band collaboratively. The other members of band for the album, Ifetayo, were; Andre Wallace/ Labea Ijuba on lead guitar, born in St. Vincent; Holly Kruikshank on key board;Ralph Bennet/ Ipelejo on drums; Kenneth Shepherd/ Dada Elijah, lead percussionist and flute; Earl Lewis/Akowe,double tenor pan; Vocalist, Arthur Byron. The record, was produced under the Phillips Label with project manager manager Jeff Nikau. The music came out of the era, and I suppose influence of Osibesa and Symande. They, however were very focused on developing their music style experimentally, out of the Afro- Rhythms of Trinidad and Tobago, especially that of Calypso which they stretched and slowed down into the Spiritual Baptist Duption rhythmic pulse. Their music along with musicians such as Lord/ Mansa Musa and the St. James Drummers and Earl Rodney and Friends spear headed the musical change from Calypso to Soka, the soul or Duption of Calypso. Their music was clearly before its time and influenced those who came after without acclaimed credit . Other members of the band not on the album were Shaka, percussion and David Collymore/ Akoneliko, percussion and band manager.
