Between the Devil and the Deep were an Australian post-hardcore band based in Sydney, New South Wales. The band's final line-up consisted of vocalist Jay Gleeson (also of Epics), bassist/vocalist Dave Drayton (also of zzzounds and formerly of Milhouse and Euripides Berserker), guitarists Tim George & Matt Hermanns and drummer Damien Elliott. The band formed in 2005, and released their debut EP the following year. Minor and sporadic releases would follow, including a seven-inch, a single and a split EP. In 2011, the band would do extensive touring with both national and international bands, amongst them La Dispute, Bridge and Tunnel, The Get-Up Kids, The Nation Blue and Heavy Heavy Low Low. In 2012, the band would finally release their debut album in Paper Spine. Despite strong critical reception, the location of band members would prove to be too great an issue, resulting in the band's split. The band played their final show as a part of the Poison City Weekender at the Tote Hotel in Melbourne, Victoria on September 14th, 2012.
