About Bellicose

There are multiple artists using this name: 1. Bellicose is a dubstep project from the UK, releasing on the Legs Akimbo label. 2. Bellicose is a US Thrash/Death Metal band from Nashville, Tennessee. 3. Bellicose is a US Heavy Metal band from Dallas, Texas formed in 1983. 4. It all started one day at lunch in December of 1997 when Dustin Treinen wanted to start a new band. He was a bassist, but owned a guitar as well. He knew that his friend Martin Murphy, who played bass and guitar also, would be up to it. They discussed it and decided that Dustin should play bass and Martin should play guitar, because those were both their stronger talents. Dustin knew another kid from school who he thought would make a great drummer, named Matt McCandless. The first practice was at a local comedy club that Martin's mom managed. The neighbors complained and practice was moved to Dustin's basement. Here they wrote their first 1 or 2 songs. It started as a grunge/punk band. Punk bands like MxPx mostly influenced Martin, Dustin was into Nirvana, and Matt was into 311. They still didn't have a name though. After some thought, they decided on the name Element Blue. In November of 1998, after long searching, Dustin found an old friend from grade school, named Brian Durkan, who was interested in singing. He was more into metal bands like Pantera, Deftones, and Machine Head. After a few practices, his screaming and emotional lyrics got the other 3 attached. They decided that Brian was a keeper. It was about this time that a problem arose with the name of the band. Their name was similar to another local band at the time who was getting very big. To rid the comparison, they thought of some options, and finally Martin suggested the name Bellicose, which means "war-like and aggressive". The new name matched their new style of music, and it was decided that Bellicose would be their new name. After playing around town for about a year at places like The Asylum, Ranch Bowl, Cog Factory and The Junction, the band was developing a wide fan base. Also, the band came to be good friends with other local bands like Blue Panic, Plosion, Sutter Cane, Release, System Failure, Fumescrew, Alter-Ego, Ragdolls, Row 8 Plot 30, and Mindset Zero. They continued playing shows and raising money to record their first CD. The band recorded their five song CD in late February 2000, titled Tension. The CD contains 5 highly emotional and power-driven songs. Their CD release show was at the Cog Factory with Fumescrew, Ninefall, and Recluse. The CD's have been selling better then anyone expected. In October of 2001, Martin was removed from the band due to poor communication. He was replaced by Pat from the local band Unit 731. The band has been working on their second CD, and plan to release it sometime in the spring of 2002.
