Benjamin "BeBe" Winans (born September 17, 1962) is an American gospel and R&B singer from Detroit, Michigan. He is a member of the Winans family, most of whom are also gospel artists. Winans has released nine solo albums, seven with his sister CeCe as BeBe & CeCe Winans, and one with three of his brothers. Winans began his career performing with his sister CeCe. They were selected as background vocalists for Jim Bakker's television show "The PTL Club" in South Carolina, where they remained for approximately five years. During this period, they recorded the single "Lord Lift Us Up" on the show's label, which led to a full-length album. After leaving the show, they released five albums together: "BeBe & CeCe Winans," "Heaven," "Different Lifestyles," "First Christmas," and "Relationships." The siblings pursued solo careers in 1995 but reunited in 2009 for the album "Still Together," which included the song "Close to You," awarded a Dove Award in 2010 for Urban Recorded Song. Winans won his first Grammy in 1989 for Best Soul Gospel Performance, Male for the song "Abundant Life," featured on his brother Ronald's "Family & Friends Choir." He signed with Atlantic Records in 1996 and released his self-titled solo debut in 1997, which included the singles "In Harms' Way," "Thank You," and the international hit "I Wanna Be the Only One" featuring British soul trio Eternal. The single reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in May 1997. In 2000, Winans released "Love & Freedom" through Motown Records, featuring production by Warryn Campbell, Brian McKnight, and Masters At Work. The album included the singles "Coming Back Home" and a cover of Stevie Wonder's "Jesus Children of America," featuring Marvin Winans and Stevie Wonder. In 2002, he released the live album "Live & Up Close," recorded at BET studios and featuring artists such as Debra Winans-Lowe and Stephanie Mills. The album included the studio version of "Do You Know Him?" as its lead single. By 2003, Winans established his record label, The Movement Group, in partnership with Still Waters, a gospel imprint of Hidden Beach Recordings. The first album under this arrangement was the 2004 holiday album "My Christmas Prayer," initially sold exclusively at Starbucks locations. Winans also made a small film appearance in the 2004 remake of "The Manchurian Candidate." In 2005, Winans released "Dream," featuring the single "I Have A Dream," which sampled Martin Luther King Jr.'s historic speech. The album also included the duet "Miracle Of Love" with Angie Stone, which appeared on the soundtrack of songs inspired by "The Passion Of The Christ." In 2003, he performed at the "Women Rock" benefit with Anastacia, singing a duet for her song "Heavy on my Heart" and providing backup vocals for a cover of Aerosmith's "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing." In 2008, Winans performed a duet with Eden Espinosa at the Alma Awards, broadcast on ABC. He also contributed "Born for This" to the Obama/Biden Inauguration tribute "Change is Now" CD+DVD. Winans hosts the nationally syndicated "BeBe Winans Radio Show" and has appeared on Broadway in "The Color Purple" as Harpo, performing alongside Chaka Khan. Since 2010, he has hosted the Sunday morning radio show "The BeBe Experience" on SiriusXM's Heart & Soul channel. Winans served as a judge on the gospel music competition show "Sunday Best" on BET, alongside Mary Mary. He participated in the 2010 remake of "We Are The World" to benefit Haiti and performed with CeCe Winans, Mary Mary, and the West Angeles Choir on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." In 2012, he published the memoir "The Whitney I Knew," documenting his friendship with Whitney Houston and performing at her funeral. In March 2014, he joined Eternal at the Hammersmith Apollo in London to perform "I Wanna Be the Only One" as part of The Big Reunion live shows. In 2025, Winans reached number one on Billboard's Gospel Airplay chart with "Father In Heaven (Right Now)" featuring Gerald Albright. His previous number-one singles on the chart include "In Jesus Name" (2021) and "He Promised Me" (2018), and with CeCe Winans, "Close to You" (2009).
