About Battery Operated Orchestra

Battery Operated Orchestra (or BOO) are the husband-and-wife DIY electronic duo of Brigitte Sutherland from Hobart and Chris Blackburn from Glasgow. Brie sings, hits things and plays theremin, Chris plays synthesizers and they are proud purveyors of irony-free synthpop. They started out in 2010 dressing up as ghosts doing B-52s covers on a couple of Casiotones, and have released three EPs which are available on Bandcamp. They also make their own videos. Their debut album Incomplete Until Broken was released 10 September 2014. “It’s analog electro pop like Claire Grogan‘s grandkids discovered her old kit in the attic, didn’t really know what it was but just made it work anyway.” - Deadly Music “Chirpy, analogue powered electro-pop that sounds like a childlike version of Chvrches, full of fun and devoid of irony” - The Metaphorical Boat “Crackly retro-electronica: like St. Etienne given an unlimited supply of Atari game modules and OMD B-sides and a sense of humour… Makes me miss Brighton with sobering drunken clarity.” - Everett True “hard-edged Mitteleuropop sensibility … 80s disco sounds, yes. Jaunty 70s school programme jingles, yay. More serious-minded 65DOS/John Carpenter-esque sci-fi soundtrackery, affirmative. And while BOO cleave to a DIY ethic with a certain allergy to polishing things too much, that’s very clearly deliberate.” - SoundsXP
