About BLIND KÜNSTLER

Primarily conceived as a film music project, Blind Künstler is a collaborative effort anchored by the production and instrumental work of New Zealander, Rhys Braddock, and the Czech saxophonist, Tomáš Továrek. Half instrumental, half songs, the new album mixes genres and atmospheres while maintaining some sense as a whole. Lynchian landscapes converge with Gothic jazz stylings with Továrek’s masterful technique both lyrical and unsettling, sometimes all in the same phrase. Each track is accompanied by one of Rhys’ naive paintings, something he’s only recently taken up. “Blind Künstler has a long history dating back to my time in Melbourne. It was originally an industrial group doing gigs in abandoned factories. Kind of like an EN revival! I’ve resurrected the name as it seemed to sum up my feelings about learning to paint: blindly stumbling in the dark and all the various difficulties of the beginner. Like improv music, I like chasing randomness to find something beautiful (or ugly). But you usually have to swim through an ocean of garbage to get to it. It’s quite a childlike approach. That’s painting and music for me. I’m still rather blind.”
