About Benji.
Born Ian Benjamin Welch, Benji. hails from the Homewood section of Pittsburgh, where he grew up in a musically inclined family. Always surrounding himself with music, Benji. is a self-taught musician, producer, artist and impassioned live performer — having once opened for the likes of Kid Cudi, Earthgang, & Duckwrth. One of the most boldly original artists to break out of the Pittsburgh hip hop scene, Benji. brings pure energy and unlimited imagination to everything he creates. With his extraordinary musicianship, the rapper/singer/songwriter/producer draws inspiration from soul and hip-hop and psych-rock and funk, molding those eclectic influences into a hyper-inventive but timeless sound. Featured on NPR’s “20 Artists To Watch In 2019” list, Benji. made his full-length debut, "Smile, You're Alive!", after having joined Atlanta based supergroup, Spillage Village, and appearing on the collective's 2020 album, "Spilligion". More recently, Benji. has also served as the tour bass player for Earthgang, as seen on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the Ghetto Gods Tour, and in support of Gorillaz.
