Byun Baekhyun (Korean: 변백현; born May 6, 1992 in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea), simply known as Baekhyun (백현), is a South Korean singer and actor under S.M. Entertainment . He is one of the main vocalists of South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO and its sub-unit EXO-CBX. In 2019, Baekhyun became a leader of the supergroup SuperM . He attended Jungwon High School, where he was the lead singer in a school band called 혼수상태 (rom.: honsusangtae; eng.: comatose state) and attended several musical festivals, later winning an award at a local rock festival. Baekhyun was one of the last members to join the boy group EXO, and was revealed as the group's ninth member on January 30, 2012. Baekhyun has cited Rain as one of his main influences and hopes to emulate Rain's "well-rounded" success. In August, Baekhyun was confirmed as a member of SuperM, a "K-pop supergroup" created by SM Entertainment in collaboration with Capitol Records that would be aimed at the American market. SuperM debuted with the self-titled extended play SuperM on October 4, 2019 which entered the US Billboard 200 at number one, making SuperM the first Asian artist in history to top the chart with a debut release.
