About Angelo Debarre & Tchavolo Schmitt

Here is what Wikipedia has to say about Angelo Debarre: Angelo Debarre (born in Saint-Denis on August 19, 1962) is a Romani (Gypsy) guitarist in the Manouche Jazz style. He began playing at age 8 and in 1984 started his first group, the "Angelo Debarre Quintet." In 1985 they were engaged by Serge Camps at his Parisian café La Roue Fleurie, where Angelo was discovered. His debut recording for Hot Club Records, the Gypsy Guitars, was an instant success, and became the reference recording in the Manouche jazz genre.[citation needed] Angelo Debarre has performed in several significant Romani and jazz festivals, particularly Birdland's "Django festival." He also co-wrote Mémoires: Memories of Django with Tchavolo Schmitt. M. Debarre and M. Tchavolo Schmitt perform primarily in France and European jazz festivals. Both men are steeped in the Jazz Manouche tradition but their music never feels trapped within a time period or style, they are true contemporary jazz musicians. It is somewhat rare to hear jazz performed on the acoustic guitar which is how both these musicians often play. The music therefore has a certain purity being played without effects pedals.
