About Amand

Herman George van Loenhout (Eindhoven, 10 april 1946 - 19 november 2015) better known as Armand, was a Dutch protest singer, often called "The Dutch Bob Dylan". His hit "Ben ik te min", released in 1967, is a Nederbiet classic. Armand released his first single in 1965 and scored several hits in the '60's. The first part of his carreer ends In 1969, He was heavily addicted to harddrugs and went into rehab. In 1971 he returns but was no longer interested in writing hit-singles. As an album artist he remained successful in both the flowerpower scene and the Nederpunk-scene (which was very uncommon). His lyrics are critical towards the Dutch society and two out of three singles he released were banned from the Dutch radio. In 1990 Armand decides he will never release a record again on a major record label, because no one gives him absolute freedom in his choice of music and lyrics. Armand still was a spokesman of the flower-power ideology and an icon in the legalization-movements. In 2015, he revisited thirteen of his lesser known songs with contemporary beat outfit, The Kik, as his backing band. The eponymous album was released under the moniker, Armand & The Kik.
