About AVATON

Avaton (Greek: Άβατον) is a band from Greece with a unique style mixing jazz fusion and Greek folk. Their work includes musicalizations of Greek legends and traditional themes, singing in ancient Greek. The band integrates in their work instruments as diverse as didgeridoo and shakuhachi. The band was discovered in 1988 by Manos Hatzidakis, one of the most famous Greek musicians, who signed them and released their first self-titled album through his label, Seirios, in 1991. Avaton released a second album "Έρως Αελίω", through FM Records in 1993. Mixing Byzantine music with modern instrumentation, Abaton performed on stage a 14 piece band trying to achieve anatmosphere of oriental mystery. In 1996 the band signed to Lyra Records and during the same year released a double album, "Εξ Αδοκήτω", featuring material mostly from their past albums.
