About Afraid
AFRAID was formed in Portland, ME, in the spring of 2011. Theirs is a music that defies easy categorization, centered on hypnotic bass and layered, ghostly vocals, played at dirge-like tempos and cloaked in droning loops. With equal footing in sleazy 20th century gutter rock and contemporary pitch-black experimental transgression, they write music at once paranoid and trance-inducing, beautiful and violent. After a series of early singles and EPs, including a collaboration with Jarboe, their debut full-length, entitled 'Sinister Vibes', was released by the West Virginia based cassette label Crash Symbols in March of 2015.
