About ADNAN KARIM

Adnan Karim is one of the most popular Kurdish artists in Kurdistan. In 1963 Adnan Kerim was born in one of Kurdistan`s oil rich and ancient towns Kirkuk which is situated in the Kurdistan quarter of Iraq. He came from a poor family but they did everything to ensure that their children had a good education and a tolerable existence. The Iraqi government's political policies forced the family to flee Sulaimanya, one of the cradles of Kurdish patriotism. Adnan continued his educational path in Sulaimanya and graduated as an artist. Adnan grew up with his family in a culture-rich environment, so in his early teenage years his love for traditional Kurdish music and storytelling was deep. The established popular traveling bands with their excellent musicianship and brilliant singing of folksongs and ballads that were performed at private and public concerts left a deep influence on him and his musical talents. Adnan Karim's first public performance as a musical artist goes back to 1979. For him, it signified the discovery of his musical talents which later carried him into the limelight and popularized his music not only with Kurds but with foreign music lovers. Kurds love his music because they find an authenticity to traditional Kurdish tones in it. The well attuned instrumental sound of his songs gives a genuine sound, and gives the audiences a feeling of a deep, melancholic life. His voice is soft and deep and accompanied by oriental instruments, which has their roots bedded in Kurdish music and lead the listener to spiritual enrichment. Because of Saddam Hussein's chemical weapons attack on Kurdistan, Adnan Karim escaped to Sweden in 1992. At the same time he continued with his music and artistic activities. He prefers to sing accompanied by different instruments with different sounds. He composes his own music and often plays the instruments himself. In the year 2000, Adnan together with a few musician had a successful and much talked about concert in the famous concert hall in Stockholm. Albums: Bîrtan Dekem (1993) Raz (1995) Şewî Yelda (1996) Eroy Oxîr (1999) Shînî Ba (2002) Live Consert (2002) Tavgeyek le Ishq (?) Tonight (2006)
