About A Presença das Formigas

A Presença das Formigas is a portuguese band, founded in 2008, whose original music combines diverse elements inspired on the traditional, folk and popular portuguese music. They received the Zeca Afonso award (awarded to the best interpretation and original music) by their song "O Rei (A Morna Indiferença) " on the Cantar Abril Festival 2009. Their name is precisely the name of a song by José Afonso, the great portuguese singer-songwriter. With seven musicians on stage and 15 instruments, many of which traditionally portuguese, their music envolves a wide variety of sounds, characters and emotions. A the portuguese folk serves as a starting point of a colourful and surprising musical journey, which borrows from reflexions regarding the present society, the satirical troubadour, the peculiar wail of the portuguese guitar and the roar of the portuguese traditional percussion.
