About NGC-5128
NGC-5128 (Kosmo Mill Bird) aka Kristaps Lagzdins (born in Cesis, Latvia 1980) is one of the spiritual and creative leaders of modern times Latvian techno scene. Thanks to his artistic parents (his father was a DJ), NGC had musically inspiring childhood, filled with active party atmosphere, all of which contributed to his choices and interests in life, in this case, quality music (re)making, sound processing and DJing. In most aspects of his life, NGC-5128 is trying to follow the calls of his explorer’s heart. In music he notices original and extra-ordinary expressions of artistic souls, even his passion for electronic music was determined not only by its so resonating sound and feel, but also by the fact, that it clearly stood out of Latvian mostly rock and schlager oriented music environment. In his early days of creative life 5128 is obsessed by house, trance and hardcore rhythms, later on he is completely blown away by jungle vibes. Nevertheless, crucial year 1997 comes, when he and his mates attend one of the very popular raves of those days at VEF Culture Palace, the atmosphere of which – solid grooves of quality Detroit and british techno, fills him with such an inspiration, that it changes his creative life completely. Right after this emotional experience comes his personal time of musical romance and most creative inspiration – first own tracks, first bought vinyl records and first sets of tasteful techno mixes. First tracks are made along with his friend Kombinator in Cesis town, using Yamaha PSS-480 and Kurzweil K-2000 synthesizers. Even in those early tracks and sounds you can recognize his unique approach to techno production, with influences from his beloved artists such as Planetary Assault Systems, The Advent, UR, Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins, Maurizio, Dan Curtin etc. His sounds and rhythms are musical and spiritual journeys in his worlds of inspiration – insterstellar space, environments of electronic machinery and technologies, enriched by warmth of emotional, spiritual experience and self-exploration. In his words his music is a „technological solution to astral journeys in space, time and subtle dimensions of soul”. Once heard, his tracks are easy recognized by their romantic and dreamy strings, pads and basslines, on top of cold, rich and technologically precise, perfectly programmed rhythmic sections. Kristap’s brilliant talent was early recognized in Latvia by "father of the electronic dance culture in all post soviet area" Dj Janis Krauklis and LV Detroit techno pioneers Dj's AG & Raitis. They widely promoted NGC-5128 by playing his tracks on various radio shows and inviting to play live sets at parties. Together with his mates from „808” community, as well as friends from „Fabrique” project (research of abstract industrial life forms, space and techno music), he is involved not only in music creation, but also in party promotions and DJing all around Latvia. His tracks and remixes appear on most of Latvian electronic music compilations as well on electronica releated radio broadcastings. One of his creations is played by legendary british radio DJ John Peel (R.I.P.) on his show @ BBC radio 1, London. NGC-5128 has participated in major Latvian techno events and festivals, such as PHAT, FreeZone/Autumn Voyage Machines, TechnoCarnival etc. Majority of techno lovers and enthusiasts, who has ever listened to NGC’s rhythmic musical journeys, agree that his music can be easily placed among the best examples of modern techno sound of the world. As a DJ, in his sets he is trying to create smooth and musically precise, automatic and cyclic machinery rhythms and grooves, constructing synthetic and energetically enriched environment for mind, body and soul, so that any party goer or just a techno lover could „find in this music a lot of delight, feel its futuristic breath – future cities, technologies and journeys to far-away stellar systems”. His musical talent (improved by his present studies in musical school), creative activity, ever inspiring attitude to life makes him one of the Latvia’s brightest godfathers of modern techno music.
