About Guglielmo Miniscalchi

Guglielmo Miniscalchi (Venice?, 1590? - 1657?) was an Italian composer. An Augustinian monk, Miniscalchi was an esteemed composer, especially in the Venetian musical environment. In 1616 he published Coelum armonicum seu concentus for one, two and three voices (now lost). In 1622 he became choirmaster of the church of S. Stefano in Venice and published the psalm Miserere mei Deus concertato in three voices with symphony ... and finally doi motetti for two voices . He became very popular for his profane solo songs contained mainly in three books of Arias published in Venice in 1625, 1627 and 1630. Miniscalchi's most notable production seems to be related to his first book of arias. Book of Psalms and concerted motets , 1622. Arias for singing in the spinet, chitarrone and similar instrument in three books, published respectively in 1625, 1627, 1630. Vicenti, who published them, testifies how the re-edition of the second book was particularly successful. Two arias in Fourth scherzo of the airy vagueness by Carlo Milanuzzi (1624)
