About 10 Degrees Below

Now here is a hip hop album probably only 50 people bought, but these guys have exactly the same mainstream/crossover appeal that Naughty by Nature's first album displayed: commercial without sacrificing any of the rawness that makes good hip hop good. 10 Degrees Below don't really sound like Naughty...in fact they don't really sound like anyone else except themselves. The vibe is definitely "party time" on each of the 10 tracks, and it's impossible not to nod your head along to the beats. One guy seems to be in charge of the production and most of the rapping, but the inlay card doesn't give many clues. At 36 minutes it's a bit too short, but all the tracks are good, especially the soulful "Poverty Blues" and the almost Tribe Called Quest sounding "Ace Of Spade". A great little album.
