About Kenny Loggins

Kenneth Clark Loggins, born January 7, 1948, in Everett, Washington, is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. Early in his career, his songwriting contributions were recorded by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1970. From 1972 to 1977, he performed as part of the duo Loggins and Messina, releasing seven albums. As a solo artist, Loggins gained recognition for his work on various film soundtracks, including an Academy Award nomination for the song "Footloose" in 1984. His soundtrack contributions began with the film A Star Is Born in 1976, and throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he was known for his frequent soundtrack work. In 2013, Loggins released the album "Finally Home" and formed the group Blue Sky Riders with Gary Burr and Georgia Middleman. Loggins was the youngest of three brothers, born to Lina (née Massie), a homemaker, and Robert George Loggins, a salesman. His family lived in Detroit and Seattle before settling in Alhambra, California. He graduated from San Gabriel Mission High School in 1966. During 1968 and 1969, he was part of the band the Second Helping, which released three singles on Viva Records. Music historian Greg Shaw described the band’s recordings as punky folk-pop and noted Loggins as the likely bandleader and singer. In 1969, Loggins briefly played guitar with the New Improved Electric Prunes and wrote four songs for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s album Uncle Charlie & His Dog Teddy. In his early twenties, he was also a member of the band Gator Creek alongside Mike Deasy. An early version of the song "Danny's Song," later recorded by Loggins and Messina and covered by Anne Murray with a top 10 hit in 1973, was released on Mercury Records. Loggins appeared as himself in the 2013 video game Grand Theft Auto V, hosting the in-game radio station Los Santos Rock Radio, and contributed the songs "Danger Zone" and "I'm Free (Heaven Helps the Man)," as well as singing station jingles. In 2014, Loggins appeared as himself in the episode "Baby Shower" of the fifth season of the animated series Archer. The song "Danger Zone" was a recurring reference on the show. In the episode’s finale and credits, Loggins performed a country version of "Danger Zone" as a duet with the character Cherlene. He later commented that his nickname on the show, "K-Log," was created by the writers as a humorous element.
