About Eurythmics

Eurythmics were a British new wave duo formed in 1980, consisting of Scottish vocalist Annie Lennox and English musician and producer Dave Stewart. Both had previously been members of the Tourists, a band that disbanded in 1980. They released their first studio album, "In the Garden" (1981), which achieved little commercial success, but gained global recognition with their second album, "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" (1983). The title track became a worldwide hit, reaching number two on the UK Singles Chart, and number one in Canada and on the US Billboard Hot 100. Eurythmics released several other successful singles and albums, including "Love Is a Stranger", "There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart)", and "Here Comes the Rain Again", before initially disbanding in 1990. After the split, Stewart worked as a record producer, while Lennox began a solo career with her debut album "Diva" in 1992. The duo reunited nearly a decade later to release their ninth album, "Peace" (1999), which produced three singles: "I Saved the World Today", "17 Again", and "Peace Is Just a Word". That same year, they received the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. They reunited again in 2005 to release the single "I've Got a Life", which reached the top ten in Scotland, the top twenty in the United Kingdom, and number one on the US Dance Club Songs chart, as part of the compilation album "Ultimate Collection". Eurythmics have sold an estimated 75 million records worldwide. Their awards include the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist (1984), the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal (1987), and the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music (1999). They were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005, the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2020, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. Studio albums In the Garden (1981) Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) (1983) Touch (1983) Be Yourself Tonight (1985) Revenge (1986) Savage (1987) We Too Are One (1989) Peace (1999)
