About Shakra

Shakra is a Swiss hard rock band founded in 1995. The band released its debut album, “Shakra”, in 1997, followed by “Moving Force” in 1999. During its early years the group gained experience through extensive touring, including performances with Great White and Uriah Heep. The band achieved wider recognition with its third album, “Power Ride”, released in 2001. Around this time vocalist Pete Wiedmer left the band due to health problems and was replaced by Mark Fox. Fox made his recording debut with Shakra on the album “Rising”, released in 2003. The album entered the album charts in Germany and Switzerland and increased the band’s visibility. Shakra performed at a number of concerts and festivals during this period, including the Bang Your Head festival. A music video for the song “Chains of Temptation” attracted attention for its depiction of the singer injecting himself with heroin. Following an appearance at the Spirit of Rock festival in Switzerland supporting Iron Maiden, the band embarked on a twelve-country tour with HammerFall and Stratovarius. In 2006 Shakra also performed at a concert in Zurich that featured Guns N’ Roses. After the release of the album “Everest”, Mark Fox left the band and was replaced by vocalist John Prakesh. With Prakesh, Shakra released the album “Back on Track” in February 2011 and “Powerplay” in January 2013. On 23 April 2014 John Prakesh announced his departure from the band. In October 2015 Mark Fox rejoined Shakra, and the band released the single “Hello” following his return.
