About Golden Earring
Golden Earring was a Dutch rock band founded in 1961 in The Hague as the Tornados. They gained international recognition with hits such as "Radar Love" (1973), which reached number one on the Dutch chart, entered the top ten in the United Kingdom, and peaked at number thirteen in the United States, as well as "Twilight Zone" (1982) and "When the Lady Smiles" (1984). Over their career, the band achieved nearly 30 top-ten singles on the Dutch charts and released 25 studio albums. After several early personnel changes, the band established a stable lineup in 1970 consisting of Rinus Gerritsen (bass and keyboards), George Kooymans (vocals and guitar), Barry Hay (vocals, guitar, flute, and saxophone), and Cesar Zuiderwijk (drums and percussion), which remained until the band announced its breakup in 2021 due to Kooymans being diagnosed with ALS. Other musicians contributed to the band during brief periods throughout its history. George Kooymans died on 22 July 2025. Although the band initially chose not to hold a farewell concert, they later organized a series of farewell shows titled "One Last Night in Rotterdam Ahoy," which took place from 26 to 30 January 2026, featuring performances by Golden Earring and other Dutch artists.
