About zero8

There are at least two groups with the name zero8. a) zero8 is a Stockholm-based men’s chorus under the direction of Doug Harrington. From the beginning the goal has been to build up a young “fresh” men’s chorus with the ability to master different musical styles at a consistently high level. To master different genres means in practice that the chorus should sound like a jazz ensemble when singing jazz, so that in the next moment deliver a barbershop song on a world-class level, or a traditional Bellman drinking song in the Swedish choral style. Many of the chorus members are guys in their twenties who have recently completed their training (or are still studying) at one of Stockholm’s music schools. A varied repertoire includes music written by Eric Clapton, Carl-Michael Bellman and Curtis Mayfield, but with a certain emphasis on barbershop. zero8 is a member of SNOBS (Society of Nordic Barbershop Singers), which annually holds the Nordic barbershop championship. The chorus took part in the contest for the first time in the spring of 2008 and surprised themselves by winning with a fantastic response from the audience and judges. This makes zero8 the Nordic Barbershop Champion. The victory also means that the chorus is qualified to compete in the international barbershop championship contest in Anaheim, California in the U.S. in summer, 2009. The group is now working intensively to prepare for this new challenge. b) Post-rock group formeded in 2001.
