About vincAt
Since starting out in the summer of 2004, Vincat have grown and changed shapes frequently. Throughout the years they have added and subtracted different personas, members and instruments including orchestral elements, an all girls childrens choir, and even aliens. Vincat are presently back to the basics as the original three members, Kristian North on vocals, guitar, keyboards; Crystal Dorval on vocals, guitar, bass, foot keyboard and Danny Costello on drums, percussion, small keyboards. Vincat have accomplished some notable things in their young journey as a band, having toured across Canada twice and played in festivals like Pop Montreal, New Music West, and Rifflandia. In 2005 they independently released their first full length album called "I like their older stuff better". It received enthusiastic reviews and snagged a spot on the top 20 “most played local bands of 2005” on CFUV, the Victoria college station. Earshot! Magazine called it one of the best local releases of 2005, and Monday Magazine wrote “they have all the makings of a fine giddy-inducing listen”. The album made it's way to the #2 spot on the Vancouver college charts and found itself in the top 10 in places like Calgary, AB, Lethbridge, AB, Victoria, BC and even a spot, for the Month of August 2006, on the charts for all of Canada. In December 2006 Vincat began work on their second full length album with producer Colin Stewart of The Hive Creative Labs in Vancouver, BC. The album was recorded off and on again throught out 2007. It has still yet to be released but has the singles "Werewolves" and "The Brightest" on compilations from Aaargh records and Mint records. Upon waiting for a release date for the full length album, Vincat undertook an interesting project consisting of a trilogy of experimental themed albums. Early in 2008 they released PART I in the Trilogy called "Inner Space", which is a journey through outer space. The EP was launched with an epic CD release show in Victoria, BC and received press in the Metropolitan zine, and Monday Magazine. Vincat are currently finishing up work on PART II in the Trilogy, which is a journey through the history of planet earth, due out in early 2009 along with the anticapted follow up full length.
